About

In Composition 7, two main textures predominate. One is concerned with a close synchronisation of the instruments and the electronic sounds, and the other uses sustained sounds in a freer, more open style.

Much of the electronic music is derived from transformations of real bassoon chords which sound particularly sonorous on this double reed instrument, with a rich frequency spectrum present in the pre-recorded multiphonics.

Composition 7 was first performed for Radio New Zealand by Gordon Skinner and Barry Morgan. The electronic sounds were realised in the Electronic Music Studio, Victoria University of Wellington.
