Biography

Felicia Edgecombe, teacher, song-writer and musician, was born in Napier and educated at Tauranga Girls’ College, then later at Auckland University, studying English and Music for a BA degree. She has taught in secondary schools in Auckland and Wellington, serving as Head of Music at Queen Margaret College for many years. Extensively involved with choirs and also church music, she has written many songs, from contemporary church, to children’s songs and SATB songs for the choirs that she has been involved with: Festival Singers, The Queen’s Singers, and Capital Choir Wellington, the singers she currently directs.

Felicia was co-editor with Dr Guy Jansen of a book of 150 Folk Hymns, Servant Songs, and many of her songs have been recorded and performed on television. She has also been involved in many recordings of school groups, community groups and churches and is passionate about the beauty of New Zealand, the love of God, of family and the importance of community music-making. She is married to Ken Edgecombe, has four adult sons and lives in Paremata, Wellington.

In 2015 Shaky Places, a setting of 14 New Zealand poems for mixed choir, was premièred by Capital Choir in Wellington.
