Auckland Chamber Orchestra

Performing Organisation

Biography

A professional orchestra resident in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Auckland Chamber Orchestra has been entertaining and inspiring audiences with many musical genres. They are enjoying their new home at the Raye Freedman Centre in Epsom Auckland.

Born in 1999, the ACO showcases music making which has spanned the middle ages through to music composed just days before the performance. There has been song, dance, story telling, serious music, fun music, improvisation and many surprises. ACO concerts are unique.

Highlights include playing with Dame Malvina Major at Waitangi, Opera in the Pa at Rotorua, accompanying silent film, studio recordings, children’s concerts, composer workshops, opera in concert, opera productions and ballet.

Collaboration is the key to progress and we have had successful collaborations with other organisations including the Film Festival, Opera Studio and Musica Sacra.

We thank the many soloists and artists we have worked with including the behind the scenes help from the people at the Edge. Many composers have been with us in production and they give the ACO an insight into the creative process which is the whole reason for being here in the first place.

We pay tribute too to the great composers of the past whose music makes the world a better place, speaks of hope, challenge and beauty. Above all it is the collaboration with the audience which is the ultimate vibrant purpose and joy of music making.
