Biography

Violinist and composer Alwyn Westbrooke is a founding member of the Westbrooke Quartet. He studied at Burnside High School, Christchurch and spent a year on a student exchange in Dresden, Germany, prior to studying at Canterbury University with Chris Cree Brown and John Cousins.

In 2000 he won the Composition (and performance sections) of the Chamber Music NZ School Chamber Contest with his String Quartet No. 2. Subsequently he was offered a commission for a fanfare by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, funded by Ian Fraser and James Judd.
